If you spend most of your time at the office or on the road, it is hard to monitor your house. But it is important for you to do so, especially where you have young children at home.

Technology has answered with wireless surveillance cameras. This device allows us to monitor the happenings in the monitored area. It is a great device for monitoring how your nanny takes care of your child while you are away.

The advancement of technology has made the camera smaller, that it can be hidden in almost any place around the house. In fact, there are baby monitoring cameras which are placed inside stuffed toys and other such items.

You can place this toy or object at some vantage point that allows you to keep an eye on what is going on. It is also possible to easily camouflage security cameras to avoid their detection by any potential burglars. You can use clocks or DVD cases to conveniently hide any of the various camera models available.

There are several types of security cameras. The simplest and cheapest camera have a have black and white video output. Some were made to see in the dark using infrared technology, which has long been used by the military. The most advanced so far has the WiFi technology.

This allows the homeowner to operate the camera from any area that has an Internet connection. Each camera model is designed for specific use. Determining the needs of your household can help you decide which type to use.

Connected to your security camera may be other recording devices such as a VCR or a DVD recorder. It is also possible for you to use the hard drive on your computer as your storage device. This means that you can both control you cameras from your computer and store any footage there.

Listed here are a few points for you to understand before installing your surveillance system. It is illegal for you to record sound, therefore your devices should not have this ability. To increase the capabilities of your devices, they can be paired with other devices.

For example your camera may not be equipped with night vision. So why not install a floodlight to cover the area. There is a maximum range a wireless camera can function so make sure you are aware of this limitation when setting your system up.

One of the most frequently asked questions about the CCTV system is that inquiring upon its nature. CCTV, short for Closed Circuit Television, is a surveillance technology which monitors a wide range of activities and environments. The CCTV system is based on a communication link between a camera and a specific monitor. Many towns and cities resort to CCTV security systems, which has led to an unprecedented growth in the amount of money spent on surveillance systems. CCTV security systems are now used in public areas such as city centers, parking lots, public facilities, buses, taxis, phone booths etc. Actually, statistics say that the surveillance industry grows with up to twenty percent every year. CCTV security systems are also installed on private property, not just public places.

Evidence of domestic violence can be collected by means of a CCTV system, installing a camera inside the victims’ homes. A similar type of surveillance is used inside hospitals in cases of supposedly abused children, in order to monitor their parents’ activities and behavior.

In the early stages, CCTV security systems were used to decrease crime rate such as burglaries or car thefts. More recently, CCTV systems pick up on more minor offenses such as urinating in public, drunkenness, traffic violation. Those who evade the meters in a parking lot can also be caught on camera. Underage smoking, sexual or racial harassment, drug use, all of these crimes are the subject of CCTV system monitoring. Public order is now more likely to be kept with the use of CCTV security systems, which have become the solution to the serious problem that is urban dysfunction. But the police are not the only promoters of security through CCTV systems. Politicians also encourage installation of such systems in order to control crime.

The CCTV system also has its opponents, but whenever these critics speak up, people who are frightened by crime consider them to be nothing but enemies of everyone’s best interest.

As far as the technology used in a CCTV system goes, it suffices to say that some of these systems can be very sophisticated. They can be assisted by a computer, can detect motion, can have night vision and images of excellent clarity. Another amazing thing about the cameras on a CCTV security system is that they can focus on a single object from a crowded environment and follow that one object. They provide high definition images from which faces can be recognized. The time needed for a system to identify one face out of several thousands is less than a second. The system is mostly used in airports where terrorists may enter a country.

Since the CCTV cameras have often become targets of attacks, more and more of them now have a casing which is bullet proof, or are covered by other cameras installed nearby.

The question still remains whether CCTV security systems reduce crime. The answer is that they are most likely to prevent it. Those in favor of such surveillance systems have at least one argument. CCTV systems reduce the number of the so-called opportunistic crimes, that is the crimes committed when people decide to take advantage of a certain situation. In the same way, crimes in parking lots have reportedly dropped by almost ninety percent.

The conclusion is that, although CCTV security systems may not be as efficient as their supporters portray them, at least they appeal to common people, who now feel much safer when going shopping, for instance.

Cameras are just about everywhere in today’s day and age. There are few places you can go in public that you are not being recorded by a camera. From the streets to the local fast food restaurant you are likely being recorded. Surveillance systems have also been part of the security systems for the wealthy for many years and now they can be an affordable part of your homes.
There are several things you must consider when choosing your camera system. Just like most technology you can get more features for more money. Choosing a system will require you to consider budget along with wanted features and find a happy median of the two.
The first step is deciding how many cameras you plan to use. A system for just one camera can be set up for very little cost and be very effective. If you choose to have more cameras like 4, 8 or 16 then there are complete packages available that make cameras more cost effective. Once you know how many cameras you want, you will need to decide if you want to run wires or not. Most cameras are available in wired or wireless versions and normally the wired cameras are much more cost effective.
Surveillance cameras can come with many different functions including night vision, covert, color, black & white, weatherproof, high power wireless, pan tilt zoom cameras and many other options. If you need special application cameras they are likely available at a cost. Currently the most commonly used cameras for homes and businesses are dome cameras, bullet style cameras and hidden cameras. The type of camera will greatly depend on the application.
Next you will need to find a way to record your cameras. Recording is not necessary and it is possible to just view the cameras using a monitor, but you will find that having a recorded system has many advantages. The cost of recording can vary greatly depending on your choice of recorders. Below are the different recording options you have to choose from.
VCR -The cheapest may be an extra VCR you have lying around. Most cameras can be plugged directly into a VCR or TV’s video input. If the connection is not the same then there are adaptors available. You may be limited when using a VCR to just one camera. You can split the video of more cameras and use them with a VCR if you purchase a quad. A quad splits video inputs so they take up just a portion of the screen. Most quads are 4 channel, but more channel quads are available. VCRs can’t be viewed over the internet.
Surveillance Software and Hardware – This method of recording can also be a very cheap way to record. You must have a computer with some extra RAM and a USB port . This software will turn your computer into a feature rich DVR or digital video recorder (more on this later). To connect a camera to the computer you will need a analog to digital video converter. Just plug the camera into one end and the other end into the USB port on the computer. Most software will be able to see the camera as soon as it recognizes the video converter. If you have more cameras, you will need more converters and more free USB ports. You can also use a quad between the cameras and the video converter cord to increase the number of cameras you can view using this method. This is a great economic way to go if you only have a few cameras. These systems can be connected to the internet and viewed from anywhere in the world that has an internet connection.
DVR Card – a DVR card will need to be installed into one of the PCI ports in a PC in order to work. If you can’t add a card to the inside of your PC, then this may not be the best solution for you unless you can get some help. There are many people that have the ability to install a PCI card so help should be easy to come by. These cards range from 4 to 16 cameras and some can be used in sets for systems up to 36 cameras. The exposed part of the card on the back of the computer will allow you to connect the number of cameras the card allows. Most DVR cards will also allow audio microphones to be connected along with the cameras. DVR cards can be full of features and can compared with a high end DVR. DVR cards usually can be connected to the internet and viewed from anywhere in the world that has an internet connection.
DVR – is a digital video recorder. This device basically allows your cameras video to be recorded onto a hard drive or internal disk. There are 2 types of DVRs, windows based and embedded. Windows based DVRs are similar to a computer and use the Windows operating system to run surveillance software. Most people find Windows based DVRs much easier to use than embedded DVR. The embedded DVR does not use any software and all functions are embedded on software encoded computer chips. Embedded DVRs are cheaper than Windows based DVRs in most cases. DVRs are generally the most expensive way to record your cameras. Both types of DVRs allow you to connect the cameras directly to the back of the DVR. Some DVRs can be connected to the internet and viewed from anywhere in the world that has an internet connection.
You may also want to hook a monitor up to your system. The monitor will allow you to review the recorded video and also watch it live. Depending on the system you are setting up, the monitor may be a TV or may be a computer monitor. Monitors are available in all different sizes and qualities. If you plan on building a surveillance system you may want to consider one of the many systems available that provide everything you need in one discounted package. For the beginner it is many times easier to purchase a complete surveillance system then to try to piece together each thing individually.
These basics should be enough to get you started on finding a home surveillance system to meet your budget. Many times if you speak to a surveillance expert you can simply tell them your needs and your budget and they will put together a system that will work well for you. There are a lot of options for you to protect your home and family, be sure the system purchase will meet your security needs.

Our top choice in the dual system range of baby video monitors is the Summer Infant Complete Coverage Baby Video Monitor Set, it stands out as superior in its quality and technology transmitting at 900Mhz frequency providing superior clarity and 350′ range with 2 channel selections to minimize the chance of interference. This dual baby video monitor set is unique in its look, the 7″ LCD color flat screen has a built in handle, tilt feature and swivel design which accommodates multiple angles. A second handheld color video monitor with 1.8″ screen is included making it more convenient and portable for parents.

The majority of parents agree that the Summer Infant Complete Coverage Set is one of the very best dual system baby video monitors available today with an excellent, average customer rating of 4.5 out of 5.

Picture Quality:

The quality of the color video picture is very clear at all times, including night vision (black & white which is standard), you will be able to clearly see your baby at night without any light on in the nursery, the infrared night vision is much clearer than what you would be able to see with your own eyes.

The handheld unit can be connected to a television giving another large image of your baby, or use the picture in picture function if your TV has this feature, and monitor your child while watching TV. It’s a great advantage having both the 7″ LCD display and the handheld unit which allows 2 people to see their baby whilst in separate locations, e.g. upstairs and downstairs, or out in the garage with the other unit in the house.

Audio Quality and Reception:

The sound is very clear, occasionally static has been noticed, however this is usually rectified by simply moving the position of the monitor or changing the channel selector. Computers and cordless phones don’t cause interference in reception because they operate on a different frequency.

Other Features:

The rechargeable battery of the handheld unit lasts a long time depending on whether it’s set on Audio only mode, or Audio and Video mode. However a small disadvantage with the batteries is that they are NiCad batteries which can have memory effect issues if you don’t allow them to completely discharge before recharging them.

The handheld unit when not connected to AC power will go into sleep mode after a few minutes for the video function, audio remains active, to re-activate simply press a button on top of the handheld unit.

Overall, the Summer Infant Complete Coverage Color Baby Video Monitor Set with 7″ LCD and 1.8″ Handheld Unit is our best choice of the few duel system baby video monitors available, it’s highly recommended by parents who use this system, 4.5 out of 5. The couple of disadvantages are minor compared to the benefits experienced by parents concerned about the safety and well being of their baby, they ultimately want the best baby video monitor set available.

Today, security is a major concern for businessmen and homeowners alike. As a result, lots of money are spent to have the ultimate DVR security system. However, the spotlight always shines on cutting-edge security gadgets and gizmos. The truth is, you need to have a very effective DVR security software to make the whole system work. Read on to know how to pick the best ones.A Clear Purpose
Know what software you need before you buy one. If you are setting up a DVR surveillance system for your home or your business establishment, you need to have a software application that is bundled with the security features that you need. On the other hand, if you just want to record and save videos, there are many software packages that you can download or buy on the web. Remember, a DVR security software is more complicated and advanced than ordinary video recording software. You may need an expert’s help to run the security software.Look For Features That You Need
When you know the purpose of your DVR surveillance system, you can list important features that you should look for in security applications. Go for DVR security software with security features such as motion detection, time-lapse recording, colored bar screens, audio and video alerts via email, high definition video, and night vision. If you want to have more than 2 channels of video input, your software should support it.Read Product Reviews
It would really be worth your while to read software reviews on various DVR security software posted on various websites and magazines. These articles are a good measure of a software’s effectiveness and worth. Negative reviews mean that the application is not good. Positive reviews imply that the software is something to be desired. In fact, many enthusiasts and experts will always read reviews as they shop for devices and applications that they need. Reading software reviews will also tell you if your personal computer and your security devices are compatible with the application that you want. Some reviews will show screenshots of an application’s interface. This way, you would have an idea if the system is user-friendly or not.Get Your Money’s Worth By Buying The Best
Though it is true that expensive applications are packed with the best features, you can always look for an affordable DVR security software which works well with your security set-up. You do not have to be overly excessive with your software. Always bear in mind that an efficient and dependable security application does not have to cost much.

If you are going to get a security system for your home then you need to get a wireless infrared home security system. These are different from normal wireless home security systems in that normal cameras can’t see very good in the dark. That is why you need infrared wireless cameras.

To understand why you need infrared you need to understand how a infrared camera works. Infrared cameras display an image using infrared radiation. An infrared camera has infrared illuminators around the outside of the lens of the camera. These infrared illuminators allow the camera to see images when there is no light at all. With just a little bit of light an infrared camera can produce an image that looks like daytime but in the dark.

Infrared cameras are sometimes confused with night vision cameras but they are not night vision cameras at all. Maybe you have seen a military movie where they are using night vision goggles, they usually view the dark in a green color. This is typically what night vision cameras are viewed in. Infrared cameras are usually viewed in black and white. Some cameras can actually see color during the day but automatically switch to black and white at night.

Also wireless infrared cameras don’t use any wires so it can be placed inside and outside very easily, without being seen. Hiding a camera inside or outside so people do not know that it is there is an advantage over the perpetrator that you are trying to keep out of your house. You also don’t need to run special wiring on the outside of your house when installing an wireless infrared camera.

These cameras are much better then cameras that can only see during the day. Really if you think about it you need a wireless infrared security system because you are protecting you and your family mainly at night. That is usually when break ins occur. At night time it is also hard to see who is at your door and who is lurking outside on the street under the cover of darkness.

Wireless infrared home security systems are very popular today because they can be used in very little lighting, as well as they are fairly inexpensive and can be used both inside and outside. If you are a homeowner and are looking into purchasing a security system for your home consider a wireless infrared camera to protect yourself from intruders as well as other emergencies.
